Melissa Oliver Mickey, MAT, CD(DONA), Childbirth Educator, & Reiki Practitioner
I am a certified DONA International doula, a certified HypnoBirthing doula, a CAPPA trained childbirth educator and Reiki Practitioner living in Queens, NY. Currently, I teach private childbirth education classes and give DONA CEU workshops. My childbirth education classes are welcoming to single parents and LGBT families.
I became a doula after watching The Business of Being Born, when I realized how important the role is of labor support. I was enthralled by the integral part that the selfless women played in the lives of families as they grew. No more than two weeks after seeing the documentary, I registered for a DONA doula training.
My journey has also taken me down the road to study herbs, with a special focus on herbs for women's health from puberty to menopause.
When I practiced as a labor doula, I accompanied women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. I drew on my professional training, knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and help in communicating with your care providers to make sure my clients had the information necessary to make informed decisions as they arose in labor.
